Hi everyone. Just a quick update this evening on today's progress. As Sharon mentioned this morning, Dick was able to sit in the chair for a good part of the day and ate solid food for lunch and dinner (not to mention a couple chocolate chip cookies and a slice of pizza.... shhh... but seriously, he has no dietary restrictions at this point). He was also able to get up and do some walking. He made down the hall about two rooms plus a nurse's stand, which isn't bad for a first effort. This was probably the most painful part for him so far, but it's definitely necessary to make progress. He also continued his breathing exercises throughout the day, which can also be pretty painful. We were glad to see him finally get some "real" rest when he took a nap while Bryan, Sharon and Bob (Dick's brother) went to dinner. Sharon stayed overnight last night, but she'll be at home this evening. Dick really appreciates all the support everyone has given through e-mails, prayers, cards, and visits. Obviously, the pathology results (which we expect to get tomorrow) are the key in assessing the cancer risk, but his surgery recovery seems to be going well.
As a side note (since many of you who read this blog know Bryan as well)... we spent a good part of the day waiting for the Illinois Board of Bar Examiners to publish the bar exam results. They've had some technical problems (apparently they thought they could tell a bunch of law graduates that the scores would be posted today without crashing their web site), so the waiting continues. We'll be sure to post an update if Bryan passes!

Cookies? He must feel better! I was hoping for a little better diet post surgery ... maybe lose the sweet tooth.
Glad you are up and around! That is still amazing. Praise God!
Amazing that you are up and around ... on your feet +24 hours after surgery.
That's what I meant to say.
Well, he's been eating really well in the last couple weeks. It's crazy. He hasn't had any red meat or fried food in two weeks. He has also worked out every single day... plus, I come home and find nutrition bars all over the place. Who is this guy? I'm thinking he deserved a little reward today :)
Geez Bryan, you don't offer an alcholic a beer, do you?
Mom brought the cookies.
Dick and family:
Glad to hear that everything went to plan with surgery. Sorry to say hello after such a long time, but I wanted to let you know that we are thinking about you and saying prayers. Gavin was here last weekend and finally left (I am sure you know what I mean). He told me about your situation. Hang in there.
Your black sheep friend in Baton Rouge, Tom Martin
